Body Camera Footage Shows Floyd Repeatedly Pleading for Breath

Transcript Released by Hennepin County Attorney's Office

A newly released transcript from a police body camera reveals that George Floyd told officers he was "claustrophobic" and struggling to breathe multiple times before being pinned down on his stomach. The transcript, obtained by Hennepin County Attorney Michael O. Freeman, includes the following dialogue:

"I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I can't breathe. I'm claustrophobic," Floyd says, while officers are attempting to place him in a police car.

Floyd repeated the phrase "I can't breathe" more than 20 times before he became unconscious. The transcript also shows that Floyd told officers he had a "medical condition." Despite Floyd's pleas, the officers continued to restrain him. Within minutes, Floyd lost consciousness and later died.

The transcript's release comes amid an ongoing investigation into Floyd's death. Four Minneapolis police officers have been charged with murder and manslaughter for their involvement in Floyd's death. The death of Floyd has sparked national outrage and protests against police brutality.

The transcript provides further evidence of Floyd's desperation and the lack of response from the officers who restrained him. It raises questions about the training and use of force by police officers and highlights the need for accountability and reform.
